Nathan Stapley's "The Same Gang" Show @ Gallery1988 Venice

"The Compartmentalizing of Nathan Stapley

Nathan Stapley is back at Gallery1988 later this month with a brand new solo show! We've worked with Nathan for years in the Melrose and San Francisco locations, but this will be his first show at our Venice gallery and he's coming to town all the way from NYC, so you must come say hello. The show is called "The Same Gang: compartmentalizing pop-culture iconography" and features all new works, where Nathan brings your favorite pop-culture icons together by similar attributes. For example, in the "Dads" painting, Jack Torrance from The Shining, Darth Vader, and Homer Simpson are just a few of our all-time favorite pop-culture fathers hanging out at a backyard BBQ. And we couldn't be happier because it's such a great concept and perfect fit for G1988. Here are a few sneak previews to get you excited about the show...

"Dads"

"Greasers"

"Ramones Warriors"

"The Same Gang: compartmentalizing pop-culture iconography" featuring all new works by Nathan Stapley opens Friday, August 26th from 7-10PM at Gallery1988 Venice!!"

TONIGHT Super iam8bit Opening Night Extravaganza

iam8bit is reopening

"W ithout further ruckus, we've got a very exciting announcement to make: The group art show that ravished the world of all its precious, videogame retro-ness four times in a row is returning for a fifth go at it. Since this is such a seminal number (five shows, that is), we've decided to upgrade the name a little bit:

SUPER iam8bit
Opening Night Extravaganza
August 11, 2011
7pm to 11pm

All-night ambiance by DJ R-Rated
With special performances by Leeni and A_Rival

We'll be hosting the event at the recently renovated iam8bit headquarters in glorious Echo Park:

It's going to be bigger and bolder than ever before, as we have over 4,500 sq. ft. of event space (that's nearly 5 times the size of the original show in 2005)!

Over 100 artists will reimagine their 80's gaming fantasies, delusions and secret desires via all sorts of media - painting, sculpture, plush, and even some more interactive experimentation. Highlights include:

*A special tribute to Galaga's 30th anniversary featuring the world's largest "arcade cabinet"
* The transformation of the entire gallery into an 80's gaming wonderland by designer decal collective BLIK
*An interactive, "retro-fied" Kinect hack from Double Fine super-artist Drew Skillman
*And much, much more!

Since its inaugural show in 2005, iam8bit has been the most popular group art exhibition in Los Angeles, enlisting hundreds of artists to remix their 80’s videogame memories using paint, plush, sculpture or whatever other tools they call their own. The show has been applauded for its spectacle of interactive art as well: a 6-foot-tall, working Atari 2600 controller (15 times scale); a custom-developed version of Guitar Hero, featuring old-school video game theme songs like Mega Man 2 and Ikari Warriors (in partnership with Harmonix); and much more."

Buff Monster and Jeremyville's "Sprout Up" Show @ CCM

    Buff Monster and Jeremyville

    Sprout Up

    August 5th to September 4th, 2011

Welcome the wild and crazy stylings of Buff Monster and Jeremyville! This event is sure to tickle you pink!

Buff Monster lives in Hollywood and cites heavy metal music, ice cream and Japanese culture as major influences. The color pink, a symbol of confidence, individuality and happiness, is present in everything he creates. Buff Monster’s creative endeavors began by putting up thousands of hand-silkscreened posters across Los Angeles and in far-away places. His frequent poster missions developed into a productive street art career, and he now works on fine art paintings, collectible toys and select design projects.

Jeremyville is an artist, product designer and author. He wrote the first book in the world on designer toys called 'Vinyl Will Kill', in 2003, and his 2nd book 'Jeremyville Sessions', (both published by IdN, distributed by Gingko). Jeremyville has been in group shows at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburg, Colette in Paris, the Madre Museum in Napoli, the 796 Arts District in Beijing, and Giant Robot in New York. Converse has released 2 Jeremyville Chuck Taylor high tops, and Kidrobot have released several of his designer toys. He also regularly speaks at creative conferences, having spoken at Pictoplasma in Berlin this year, and upcoming conferences in Argentina, Norway, New York and Brazil.
